Sensex begins 2012 on a not-so-happy note; auto, realty limp, Today at the first trading day of the year 2012 closed with marginal gains after an uneventful and subdued session. The broader markets, too, were quiet in trade today and ended flat with a mixed bias. Sensex closed at 15533, up 79 points (provisional) and Nifty at 4640, up 15 points (provisional) from the previous close. CNX Midcap index was down 0.3% and BSE Smallcap index was up 0.2%. The market breadth was positive with advances at 695 against declines of 576 on the NSE
