Indian Stock Market closed in Redtoday. It was rising in the noon trading session after giving the day's high in the morning, it was expected to rise further and give a green closing on the very last day of the trading week as well as month. But it again dropped without touching again the line and closed red. 5315.05 was the day's high and 5239.4 was the day's low for Friday. Sensexdown 1%…Snaps 4-week winning streak. Over all we can say that The market breadth on the BSE was negative, with 1421 stocks ending lower and 1378 stocks closing higher. The BSE Mid-Capand the Small-Cap indexes managed to escape wider selloff that dragged the Large-Cap indices lower. 

Nifty Closing Today : The NSE Nifty settled at 5258, down 56 points or 1% over the previous close.

Sensex closing today : Sensex ended at 17,380, down by 161 points or 1% over the previous close.

Maruti Suzuki : Maruti Suzuki aims to re-hire at least 1,000 of the 1,869-contract workers at its Manesar plant to get closer to the full output level of about 1,900 cars a day (over two shifts). (BL)

British Telecom : British telecom confirmed that it had completed the sale of a 14.1 % holding in the Tech Mahindra at a price of Rs. 777.73 a share, generating proceeds of Rs13.9. (BL)

Union Bank : Union Bank of India has announced a sharp reduction in interest rates of vehicle loans. And the bank will now offer vehicle loans at 10.95 %, instead of 12.5-13.5 %. (BS)

Coal India : Coal India is likely to consider for approval the model fuel supply agreement with power companies in its board meeting . (ET)

Toyota: Toyota Financial Services Corp, has opened two branches in Mumbai and Pune and will cover the major metro centres by the end of this fiscal. (ET)

Need to Bring Inflation down to 5% : Reserve Bank of India Governor D Subbarao has said the battle against inflation has not ended yet and high prices were mostly hurting the poor people, who do not have a mechanism to get their voice heard.

The inflation continues to remain high and needs to be brought down to "more acceptable" levels of 5% or less, Subbarao said here, while noting that the challenge was to calibrate interest rates to control inflation and support economic growth at the same time.

"People are hurt by inflation, largely the poor people. They don't have the mechanism to get their voice heard," he said while delivering a lecture at Cornell University on 'India in a Globalizing World: Some Policy Dilemmas'.

JP Associates sells FCCBs; shares fall: Shares of Jaiprakash Associates Ltd fell as much as 9 percent on Wednesday as concerns about net debt levels increased a day after the cement maker raised $150 million in foreign currency convertible bonds, in part, to redeem prior debt.

Indian Stock Market closed in Red today, in the morning opening trading session market opened with the positive note and was showing the signal to rise in the mid noon trading session, but it had done opposite and had a gradual fall since it made day's high of 5358.1. NSE traded whole day below the line and just touched that only thrice a day. Day's low for today is - 5313.45. Over all it can be said that the market breath for the whole day was very weak. The Sensex closed at 17,612.78 (provisional), with a loss of 66.03 points or 0.37%. While the Nifty shut shop at 5328.45, down 21.80 points or 0.41%. Metal and capital goods stocks declined sharply. Realty and oil stocks were under pressure. Pharma stocks ended flat. Power, FMCG and information technology stocks moved higher. Midcap and smallcap stocks suffered a sharp setback.

Indian Stock Market closed in Redtoday on the very last day of the trading week. If we talk about the whole week trading, the market closing was 0.5% higher but still we will say that the market breadth was more negative with 1.7 declines to every advance. In the morning trading session today the market opening was 5415.35 which was also the day's high and after that level it was unable to touch the same or similar level again in the whole day, which led the market going down and down after every hour and closed in red. The BSE Sensex also closed in negative. Also The rupee was trading at Rs 55.49 to the dollar at the time of writing. Sensex closed negative, lower by around 67 points (down 0.4%), NSE-Nifty shut shop at 5386.7 lower 29 points (down 0. 5%). The BSE Mid Cap index and the BSE Small Cap closed 0.6%and 0.8% lower respectively in trade today.

Rupee Updates : Indian Stock Market Tips

Rupee Updates for today 24 August 2012 Friday is that the rupee declined by 18 paise to 55.44 against the dollar in early trade on today,  snapping four sessions of gains, at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on fresh demand for the American currency.

A decrease in the price is due to the increased dollar demand from importers, a lower opening in the domestic equity market put pressure on the rupee, forex dealers said.

Also, the BSE benchmark Sensex fell by 88.71 points, or 0.49 per cent, to 17,761.51.

They, however, added that euro's rise against the dollar in the overseas markets capped rupee's losses.

The rupee had gained 23 paise to end at nearly two-week high of 55.26 against the dollar on sustained selling of the American currency by exporters in yesterday's session.

In the last four sessions, the rupee has gained 49 paise, or 0.88 per cent.
