Creating the Eyes, Nose and Lips

To complete the final part of the previous tutorial, here are the procedures.

1. To create the eye, get an object using the ellipse tool. 

2. Set the outline thickness and choose ‘white’ in the color palette.

3. Get another circular object using the ellipse tool. Add the desired color for the eye ball.

4. Put the second object on top of the first object for the eye.

5. Then put both objects on top of the previous image created from the previous tutorial.

6. Select both objects and click copy  located at the upper left menu bar. (See Figure 1) 

7. Paste the copied objects on the other side of the eye.

8. To create the nose, use the freehand tool on the left side (See Figure 2).

9. Drag the line from top  to bottom.

10. Determine the line thickness.

11. Click ‘Arrange’ (upper menu bar) and Convert outline to object.

12. The line is now ready for editing. Nodes can be added or deleted to shape the line.

13. To create the lips, click the rectangle tool.

14. Again determine the outline thickness.

15. Click ‘Arrange’ and then ‘Convert to curves’

16. Create the lips by adding or deleting some nodes and shaping its sides.

17. Add color  using the color palette.

18. Again, put it on top of the previous image.  

19. There you have the simple cartoon face of a man.

Creating Cartoon Face Using CorelDraw

Above are graphic images I've created using Coreldraw X3. I’ve been using the software for several years now and I find the program easier to create vector or cartoon images. The first part of this tutorial will illustrate the method of creating the head (for my cartoon).

1. To create a simple head, click the ellipse tool (see Figure 1) located on the left  menu bar.

2. Drag the object in the working space (clipboard).

3. Using the color pallette, click the color of your choice.  

    (I used R206 G182 B158 for this example)

4. Determine the outline thickness using the outline tool. (see Figure 2 )

5. Click the object and see the upper menu,  look for ARRANGE and then click Convert  

    to curves (see Figure 3).

6. The object's nodes are now visible and ready for editing. (see figure 4)

7. By double clicking the object, you can add or delete nodes on every point or side. 

8. Use these nodes to modify the shape for the image.

9. The above tools and procedures will be applied to the other objects in order to create the eyes, nose, lips, hair.

Create Glossy Button with Coreldraw X3 (Option 2)

On the previous post, I have illustrated how to create a glossy button with Coreldraw using Fountain fill and interactive transparency tool.  There is another quick way to design glossy buttons with Coreldraw and that is through the interactive blend tool. The simple tutorial is illustrated below.

1. Create an object using the rectangle tool. Make the  desired shape.

2. Add color using the color palette.

3. Create another object and put it on top portion of the first object.

4. Color the second object (object 2) with a light color.

5. Be sure to make the edge of the second object transparent (right-click the transparent icon. See Figure 1)

6. Click both object 2 and the interactive blend tool (See Figure 2).

7. Drag the lever down of object 2.

8. Determine the blend level by adjusting the number of steps or offset between blend shapes located at the upper right menu bar (See Figure 3)

9. The glossy portion can be moved downward or upward. You can also modify the size and color.

How To Use ProShow Gold To Create a Video

A fast and easy way to create a video presentation is via ProShow Gold, another video editor.  The online version can be found at proshowweb.com. Unlike Windows Moviemaker, the tool has an option to automatically create a video and produce an output in an instant.

To test the tool and create a sample video output, I've gathered free images from flickrcc.bluemountains.net. I have them edited using Coreldraw X3 while I've used Audacity to trim and edit the background music.

How To Use Coreldraw X3 to Create a Blog Header

Earlier today, I've finished the  slide presentation on 'How To Use Coreldraw X3 to Create a Blog Header'. I want my slides to be saved automatically while working online so I have  utilized Google Presentation. 


Making graphic works using Coreldraw is quite easy for me but it  took me time because I have to prepare the step by step procedures in order  to come up  with 40+ slides. Graphic jobs is really  time-consuming but I love graphic designs more than just clerical jobs.

New Header for My Blogsite

My original blog header is so plain (the first image) that  I wanted to make it  more appealing and  so I've created a new one (the second image). 

As  layout artist,  I've been using Coreldraw X3 for several years now and  I prefer to work with this software to design the header. I've finished the task in no time today but I guess it will take me time to  finish the slide presentations. How to design the header using Coreldraw X3 will be my post.
